Introduction
In this article, we'll explore another Hoenn Pokémon: Flygon, a Ground/Dragon Pokémon which first came out in the Ruby & Sapphire block. We'll go through the best Flygon ever released, from its "baby" versions to its more powerful "ultra rare" versions.
Without further ado, let's go!
Top 10 Best Flygon of All Time!
10 - Flygon (X/Y: Primal Clash)

Its ability, Sand Flap, lets you shuffle either your or your opponent's hand back into your respective decks, and, afterward, draw four new cards. You can use this to both renew your hand or disrupt your opponent.

9 - Flygon (Sword/Shield: Darkness Ablaze)

This Pokémon's ability prevents your opponent from retreating their Pokémon if Flygon is your active Pokémon.
On the other side, its attack lets you discard a Stadium in play. If you do, Flygon becomes immune to enemy attack effects and damage - it becomes a true frontline Pokémon.
You can use this Flygon in Expanded.
8 - Flygon (Sun/Moon: Dragon Majesty)

This is the only Flygon from Sun & Moon. Its ability, Dragon Guard, protects your Dragon Pokémon from enemy attack effects.
You can use it in Expanded.
7 - Flygon (Diamond/Pearl: Rising Rivals)

This is Flygon's second "baby" version from Diamond & Pearl.
It stands out because of its ability, Rainbow Float, which sets the retreat cost of your other Pokémon to 0 if Flygon has a basic energy attached of the same type as those Pokémon.
Its attacks are also excellent: Sand Wall lets you discard a Stadium in play, and, if you do, Flygon becomes immune to attacks on the next turn. Power Swing, in turn, deals 60 damage plus 10 extra damage for each evolution on your board.
You can only use this card in the Palace and U150 formats.
6 - Flygon (Black/White: Boundaries Crossed)

This was the only Flygon included in Black & White.
Its ability lets you put a damage counter on all enemy Pokémon in-between turns, as long as Flygon is your active Pokémon.
You'll need four energies and also discard a Grass and a Fighting energy to use its attack, but it Paralyzes your opponent's active Pokémon. Considering Paralyzed Pokémon can't attack or retreat without a few specific cards, it's quite interesting.
You can use it in Expanded.
5 - Flygon LV.X (Diamond/Pearl: Rising Rivals)

One of the strongest Pokémon in the Diamond & Pearl era was this Flygon LV.X. It can copy attacks of its "baby" versions, like Flygon RR 5 and Flygon SW 5.
Furthermore, its ability, Wind Erosion, "mills" the enemy deck in-between turns as long as it is your active Pokémon.
Its main attack deals "sniper" damage to the opponent's Pokémon LV.X.
You can only use it in the Palace and U150 formats.
4 - Flygon-EX (X/Y: Promo Cards)

This Flygon stands out because of its ability, Voice of Sands, which forces the opponent to swap their active Pokémon with one of their Benched Pokémon each turn Flygon is your active Pokémon.
Its attack relies on luck to deal more damage, so it is more reliable with cards like Glimwood Tangle DAA 162 and Trick Coin PHF 108. With them, you'll always be able to get heads and deal even more damage with this Pokémon.
3 - Flygon V (Sword/Shield: Brilliant Stars)

Our third place is Flygon V, which stood out in Standard when it was released because of its attack, Draconic Impulse. It is very efficient against Pokémon VMax.

Some Regidrago VSTAR SIT 136 decks used one copy of this card precisely to deal as much damage as they could to this type of Pokémon.
2 - Flygon ex (Scarlet/Violet: Surging Sparks)

This Flygon came out recently, in the Scarlet & Violet block, and is currently standing out in Standard because of its attack, Sonic Peridot. This attack deals "sniper" damage to enemy Pokémon ex and Pokémon V.
However, Pokémon V will leave this format after the April 2025 rotation, which may make this Pokémon less relevant. You might also struggle to get the energies you need to play it in Standard without cards like Aurora Energy SSH 186 or Scramble Energy DX 95, which are only available in alternative formats.
In that case, its other attack, Reversing Storm, may become a better alternative, particularly in an "attack and retreat" strategy.
1 - Flygon-GX (Sun/Moon: Cosmic Eclipse)

Our first place is Flygon-GX, one of the most consistent and powerful Flygon around.
Its ability makes your Pokémon take 30 less damage from enemy Pokémon whenever it is your active Pokémon, so "sniper" attacks will not stop you.
Its main attack deals 240 damage if there is any Stadium in play, and also discards that Stadium afterward.
In turn, its GX attack ignores all enemy effects, so you'll be able to hit targets that would usually be immune to Pokémon with a Rule Box, like Glaceon-EX FCO 20.
You can use this Flygon in Expanded.
